This 15th century ancient city of Rakhine Kingdom is known for its old
temples with wall paintings of Indian fluence. The Mahamuni Shrine, one of
the famous pagodas in Myanmar, is situated 30 km from Mrauk U. Shittaung
Pagoda: meaning 80000 Pagodas is located half mile from the city. It was
built by the great King Minbagyi during A.D 1535. Koethaung Pagoda:
meaning 90000 pagodas. It was built by Min Thaikkha during A.D 1553.
Dukkanthein Pagoda: It was used as an Ordination Hall before but now it is
an interesting place to visit. Andawthein Shrine: Meaning the tooth relic
of Buddha. It was built by Min Hla Raza during A.D 1521. Laymyetnha
Pagoda: meaning four faces or sides. King Min Saw Mon built this pagoda
during A.D 1430. Other interest site to see in Mrauk U.

This mystical pagoda stands on a gold gilded boulder, precariously perched
on the edge of the hill over 1100 m above sea-level. It is an 11 km
up-hill climb for the hikers from Kinpun base camp. There are many legends
about the pagoda and the “nats” or “spirits”.

A charming town, is the capital of Mon State, situated at the mouth of the
Thanlwin River (Salween River). Sites to see in Mawlamyine are
Kyaikthanlan Pagoda, Uzena Pagoda, Caves of Kawgoon and Payon, famous for
its countless Buddha images, stalagmites and stalactites.

Known as the Gems City, is some 115 km north-east of Mandalay. Myanmar
rubies, sapphires and emeralds and other precious stones are mined in
Mogok area. Only packaged tours with special permission are allowed to
visit Mogok.

It is a trading town in Northern Shan State, accessible by road from
Mandalay. From Lashio, the famous Burma Road, built by the British before
the War, intersects with Ledo Road leading into the Yunnan Province.'
